Meg, Jo, Beth, & Amy: a folk memory musical of Little Women is the theatrical adaptation we have been waiting for. This fresh version of the American classic combines the memory play magic of Our Town and The Glass Menagerie with an evocative folk-rock soundscape a la Spring Awakening and Floyd Collins. Styled after the book's original title, Meg, Jo, Beth, & Amy maintains a multi-protagonist narrative & tells the stories of each of the four very different March sisters. This adaption utilizes magic realism and music to explore the collective nature of memory. In 1875, Meg, Jo, and Amy gather to commemorate their late sister Beth on her birthday. The spirit of Beth appears to guide her still-living sisters back to the memory of Christmas, 1861, and their Civil War-torn childhood. Together again, the March sisters redefine their adult relationships as they trace their evolutions from girls to women, and immortalize Beth in a collection of stories to pass on to their own children. Leaning into their juxtaposition of modern lyrics and period dialogue, McClay & Vega-Romero are breathing vibrant new life into this well-known story. This is not your mother’s Little Women.
