J.O.Y.
In the future, where westernized society is hellbent on fixing the ills of mankind, people are impatiently awaiting an instant fix for everything - including their grief. An exclusive and highly competitive group therapy run by an artificially intelligent therapist, Joy, brings five people together, each struggling with their own versions of grief. Joy promises she can take away their pain and leave them feeling perpetual “joy.” The patients must endure four stages of this group therapy. Each stage allows us to develop the characters' backstory, strengthen their connections with each other, and uncover the truth behind what is really happening at J.O.Y. Our synth-rock musical asks the questions: “What would you sacrifice to feel joy?” and “What is joy without grief?”
