Michael Wartofsky

Michael Wartofsky is a Songwriting professor at Berklee College of Music, where he established an undergraduate minor in Musical Theater Writing in 2015 and won a Distinguished Faculty Award in 2018. Composer of LATE, workshopped by Boston’s Moonbox Productions in 2022 and upcoming 2026 production to be directed by Ilana Ransom Toeplitz. Michael released his 2019 album “All the Possibilities: Broadway Sings Wartofsky” on Yellow Sound Label, produced by Sean Patrick Flahaven, featuring twelve breathtaking Broadway voices interpreting his original songs, including Kate Baldwin, Alysha Umphress and Annie Golden. Full productions as composer include Car Talk: The Musical!!! and Cupcake, Boston 2012; music/lyrics for The Man in My Head starring Darius de Haas and directed by Schele Williams at NYMF 2006, and music for Friendship of the Sea for North Shore Music Theater (2002-03). Also commissioned by NSMT, music for The Navigator, 2008 workshop directed by Daniella Topol. Collaborations with Marcus Gardley, Kathleen Cahill, Tina Packer, Eric Tucker, Eric Stern, Lydia Diamond, Lauren Marshall, Sean Patrick Flahaven, John Michael Dias, and The Broadway Boys. Alumnus, NYU Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program; Founder, New Opera & Musical Theater Initiative; member, The Dramatist Guild.
