Lauren Kahane

Lauren Kahane (Book and Lyrics) is a librettist, lyricist, producer and teaching artist. Current projects include Mimosa, with Danny Ursetti, and The Girl Who Cried Different, with composer Tommy Barbarella (former keyboardist with Prince). “Girl” will be workshopped at Yellow Tree Theatre in Minneapolis this fall. Lauren and Danny’s musical, Regretting Almost Everything, is a 2024 NAMT Festival Committee Recommended musical. Lauren is a 2020 MacDowell Fellow and has been a finalist or semi-finalist for many other things. Lauren assisted William Finn in a series of Master Classes in Lyric Writing. Lauren co-executive produced the Regretting Almost Everything concept album featuring Beth Leavel and Jeff Blumenkrantz. She also produced both presentations of the William Finn - Danny Ursetti’s song-cycle, Once Every Hundred Years, and is co-executive producing the cast recording this fall. Lauren is a founding member of HomeBrewed Writer’s Collective. She is a Voting Member of the Recording Academy, and a member of Maestra and The Dramatist’s Guild. She has a B.S. from Princeton, a J.D. from Harvard Law School, and a MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU-Tisch (2017).
