Craft Show

Fred Sauter wrote book & lyrics for the hit Off-Broadway rock musical Bedbugs!!!, a NY Times & Time Out NY Critics’ Pick, as well as The Astronaut Love Show, both with composer Paul Leschen. Fred wrote the libretto for the short opera Polar with composer William King Barnett, which premiered at BAM and NYU as part of “The Climate Opera Project.” Fred was an associate producer and contributed songs to “The Rainbow Lullaby” album, created by Ryan Bauer-Walsh, released by Broadway Records. Fred is currently developing multiple new collaborative musical projects including Craft Show with composer Brett Macias and The Four Horsemen with David Mallamud and Jordan Mann. He is also a singer, actor and drag performer. Recent appearances include Angela Di Carlo’s musical The Jo-Lynn Butterfly… Christmas Special at The Wild Project, cabaret performances at Pangea, and making his NOTS (Night of 1000 Stevies) debut at Irving Plaza. Fred holds an MFA from NYU Tisch's Graduate Musical Theater Writing Program, a BFA from Maryland Institute, College of Art, and studied voice training with the dearly missed Barbara Maier Gustern. Fred lives in Manhattan and is a member of the Dramatists Guild and ASCAP.

You have created something remarkable, special and desperately needed for musical theatre writers: A space to create freely without judgement, without distractions and with the encouragement and invaluable feedback from our fellow writers. Thank you for your generosity, your vision and for including me in this life-changing experience!
